The Weekend Getaway
July 12, 2024
Joining us was my mother in law and Sindy as well as Mia of course. It was a quick trip more of an errand run but that didn’t stop us from enjoying our short stay. We stayed at a local hotel in downtown Tijuana about 4 minutes from the U.S. Border Crossing. It was the first time we had crossed at night and to be honest it was less crowded and eventful than during the day. After arriving at our hotel and settling in we went out for a few drinks and a bite to eat. There was a 2 story club just a few minute walk from our hotel and the vibe was there. Vibrant string lights throughout the front patio with a mix of outdoor and indoor seating. The second story was where the party was, nice booths and seating and spacious. The drinks weren’t memorable nor the menu, what really made the night was the live band and their unique performance from rock en español to spanish love songs. I absolutely enjoyed listening to them play café tacuba and Mana.
The first photo above is of Maria Barajas, my mother in law standing in front of the Hotel Rio Rita in Tijuana. There was a festival of commerce going on in the city center. Lots of supercars and a hypercar which was a surprise.
The next day Sindy was getting her hair and nails done. She spent nearly 6 hours there I don’t know how she does it.
Sindy after spending all day at the salon, didn’t get a picture of her nails. Don’t remember the name of the salon all I remember is it being on level 5 of a hotel really nice staff.
That day I mostly spent with my suegra we started by enjoying some Chilaquiles and coffee great way to start the day. We went shopping for a few things and went to a local mall called Peninsula. Pretty big outdoor mall but the underground parking garage was a nightmare to traverse.
The dinner that day was a great way to end our trip. Los Arcos Tijuana on Blvd Salinas and Escuadrón, parking was crowded and took a few minutes for them to valet our car. After greeting us the host seemed uneasy about Mia but after a manager came over they ultimately let us dine. Service was excellent, table service also. Sindy ordered aguas chiles verde as an appetizer my mother in law buttered langostinos. The aguas chiles were fresh, fragrant of cilantro with just a bearable amount of heat could have toned it down a bit. Langostinos in the butter sauce were tender, fragrant of chives and garlic creamy yet light. Delicate yet delicious, the entrees they selected was a fried fish plate. I didn’t get a chance to try it but i’m sure judging by the practically empty plates afterwards were also delightful. What did I have, in Tijuana Mexico know for seafood and tacos as well as micheladas? Hate to disappoint but I had a Medium-Rare boneless Ribeye steak with fresh cracked black pepper asparagus with shallot infused butter roasted potatoes. My aperitif to pair was a nice glass of Jameson whiskey. What a great treat.
